Nine Justices.
Nine.
Those that decide my fate,
My ability to have control of my body.
Nine Justices.

They must be doctors,
They must be educators,
They must have significantly studied the constitution.
Oh?
They aren't?
Then why can they decide what happens to me?

I'm pregnant,
But something is wrong.
I go to the doctor.
I've lost it.
I ask what I do now.
Wait?
What are you saying?
Nothing?
I have to almost die?
Whose dumbass idea was that?

My niece is starting school,
I'm excited to talk with her about books she reads.
Some of my favorites,
To Kill A Mocking Bird.
I loved that book.
Wait,
What?
She can't read it?
Why the hell not?
Who decided that?

These nine justices,
Mostly white men,
White Christian men,
Why do they get to make my decisions for me?
Why don't I have a say?
Why can't my brother and his wife choose what their daughter reads?
Oh,
Because they know better?
Okay.

I guess I misunderstood what they were supposed to do.
I thought they were supposed to protect our freedom from laws that were influenced by religion.
Oh?
I was wrong.
That tracks.
After all,
I'm just a woman.
