Post Birthday Colds

As luck would have it, as soon as I got another year older, I caught whatever cold is circulating around work. It actually kicked my ass more than I could have ever imagined. It’s hell getting old (insert group of people older than me telling me I’m not old).

I’m not really sure what I’m doing these days. Work is chaos and by the time I get home I’m exhausted. Even this past weekend I worked a full 8 hours on Saturday just to stay afloat. I’m exhausted. Just completely exhausted. I am blaming it on the fact that I’ve been sick, because that’s really the only thing that has changed recently. Otherwise, my life feels pretty okay.

I am going to have to take a break from poetry here for a bit. I need to really dig in my heels for my book that is being published sooner than I thought. I don’t have much longer to go, but it does need a bit of work. Mostly organization and a few new pieces. It’s crazy how fast time flies when you’re constantly doing things you love. Which, is a really, really nice change of pace for me.

I do have one question, however. Does anyone else have a cat who SCREAMS while you clean their litter box? Because my cat’s new thing is to scream at me while I scoop the poop (he uses pretty litter). It’s a little bit nuts.

The other thing I want to say is that I am going to start being a little political. Things that are at stake in this presidential election cycle cannot be ignored. And as a woman in a red state that has a recently enacted abortion ban, it is having a direct effect on me. Which, on the surface may not seem like it’s much, but the next thing they will come for is my birth control. And I’m not okay with that.

As my first “political” post, I want to ask you to check out, and read about, Project 2025. One of the issues they are pushing is the “right to life” and claiming that abortion care isn’t health care. The thing is, the same procedure that clears out a miscarriage if the woman is unable to pass the failed pregnancy herself, is also an abortion. Under abortion bans, it can only be performed to preserve the life of the mother. In other words? The woman needs to be on death’s door in order to receive medical care.

Abortion rights are health care rights. Everyone deserves the right to make their own decisions about their health care. Otherwise, if pregnancy is God’s plan, so is your limp dick.
