Trailblazers

I’m watching women in every industry break glass ceilings. As a country music fan (90s country or die, unless it’s Reba then it’s timeless and perfect) I grew up LOVING the women in the industry. Loretta, Patsy, Tammy, Dolly, Reba, Martina, Trisha, Terri, Lee Ann, Faith, Jo Dee, LeAnn…..I could go on and on.

Watching the ACMs this year, exclusively because Reba was hosting and performing, I watched the new women of the industry get recognized. Lainey Wilson, Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley, Megan Moroney….just to name a few. But those women in the 90s that blazed the trail will always hold the best seat in my heart.

Reba, Lainey, and Miranda debuted their new song, Trailblazer, on the stage of the ACMs. That song has been on repeat on my Spotify playlist for a long time. I’ll eventually turn off the repeat and move on to other songs, but eventually it comes back on and we repeat the process.

It was Dolly and Loretta
Patsy and Tammy too
They gave me a seat at the table
So I’m savin’ one for you.

I don’t know how to circle this back to the writing I do, because in my mind my poetry is like lyrics to a song. They speak to the song of my life. And it is the women of country music that gave me the courage to write the rawest feelings of my life. Which is what led me to where I am today.

So, to all you trailblazers, trying to make it easier for the next generation, keep doing your thing. One day you may just end up being someone’s inspiration.
