As a woman
I am expected to age gracefully.
As a woman
I am expected to stay skinny.
As a woman,
I am expected to do my hair and makeup.
Otherwise, I’m just
Not good enough to
Be with anyone or
Be anything.
My comfortable clothing,
My undone hair,
My makeup free face.
They tell a story
Of my inability to conform
To society’s expectation.
But it isn’t an inability.
I can do my hair and makeup.
I can drop 100 pounds.
I can look like
I just stepped out of a magazine.
But that’s just not me.
I am sweatpants and a messy bun.
I’m an unedited human who is
Just happy being me.
If that makes me not good enough,
I don’t want to be part of it.
Because being me
Is the most important thing.
