An Old Soul in a New World

I wasn’t built for this generation.
I feel like I was born in the wrong time.

Starting a night out at 9 PM,
Spending all night bar hopping,
Finally getting to bed at 3 or 4 AM.
That’s not for me.

I’d rather stay in with a book
or a cross stitching project.
I’d rather buy drinks from the store
to drink at home with friends
than spend hundreds at some bar.

Home by 8,
in bed by 10:30,
asleep by 11.

The poppy sound that country music has now,
it’s not for me.
I’d rather listen to Conway and George
Loretta and Reba
Dolly and Trisha
Patsy and Tammy.

My physical age may be 28,
but my soul feels like it is 70.
It longs for simpler days.

There is no going back,
but some days
I wish we could.
