If You Only Knew

If you only knew what a trauma survivor goes through.
The loneliness that comes from not being able to trust anyone.
The desire for a connection, but being too scared to find it.
If you only knew how easy it is to go into survival mode.
The immediate response that takes place.
Unable to pull back from it for hours on end.
If you only knew what it took for us to relax.
Wanting to feel safe but never quite sure it's real.
Waiting for you to pull away and break us all over again.
If you only knew what it takes for us to heal.
The years of therapy and anti-depressants.
The questioning of every move we have ever made.
If you only knew how good it felt for us to finally feel free.
